So, on to news about my iPhone: I've got it working with EDGE on T-Mobile UK! Yay!
Aaron, in the comments to my Unlocking the iPhone for T-Mobile UK pointed me to Ross Barkman's GPRS Info Page with a note that he got his iPhone to connect via EDGE by using the settings on that page. Lo and behold, it doth truly worketh!
So, if you're on T-Mobile UK and want to use EDGE, go to Settings -> General -> Network -> EDGE and enter the following details:
APN: general.t-mobile.uk Username: user Password: user
That's it! It should really work on any network via the settings on Ross Barkman's site but I've only tested it on T-Mobile UK.
Yay! I've got a phone that does mobile data again! :)
Now what remains to be seen is whether this will be included in my unlimited data plan or whether I'll be charged extra for it (I'm assuming it will be included!) Thanks, Aaron, for the tip!

Thank you for posting this! I got my hacked iPhone yesterday and had a hostile response when I took it to the huddersfield T-Mobile shop just now to ask what my GPRS settings were.
Now if only I could get YouTube to work…
Hi Aral! Do you also have problems with the stability of Safari or Google Maps on the iPhone (fw 1.0.2) ? The applications crashes on daily basis (crash=back to the home screen) quite annoying, I have to say.

Ello. Sorry to bother you with such a mundane question, but were you able to use EDGE on T-Mobile with your previous handset? I ask since I’ve got a Blackberry Pearl that won’t do more than GPRS, and I’m wondering if, once I get the SIM card in my iPhone, I’ll still be stuck there.

Got my unlocked iPhone 1.1.1 working with EDGE settings as above. Works really well until I come in to work site where an they have a locked Wireless network. If I forget to switch WIFI off and iPhone tries to use web, it seems to erase my EDGE settings. Apart from that minor irritation, it’s fab!!
Hope T-Mobile don’t start getting difficult with us iPhone users using EDGE. If they do, I’ll leave them immediately and suggest all others do the same :)

I really don’t think that we’re actually on EDGE — we’re using the GPRS connection. I just don’t think that the iPhone has a GRPS connection icon.
For some strange reason I was able to connect on my hacked 1.1.1 iPhone using edge on T-Mobile network. Even though I never wanted data pack. I did not configure anything. It just connected it’s self. After just 2 days od push email. I wacked a bill of £34.00 just for data only. I had to call T-Mobile to block it off my sim card. It is a feature of the card and not the phone I think. Now no more edge, no more buy viagra junk mails, no more huge EDGE bill.

Signed up to the £7.50 W&W package today and have been testing it out. I decided to check my current bill online only to find that £2.31 has already been charged as unbilled usage. There are two entries neither are for the largest amounts of data I’ve recorded so far; one is around 300Kb the other 30Kb. All the rest is down as chargless but I cannot understand these two and have emailed T-Mobile.
I’ve only used iPhone apps so something is wrong. I think the culpeot is YouTube which won’t work over gprs anyway but here is noway to no. Anyone else get this?

I have a hacked iPhone running 1.1.1. on PAYG which is now using edge. Except I’m not on a web ‘n’ walk package or signed up to any web connection! I can use it when I need to and seems to be charging me just 1p per kb!
Just checked it out on T-Mobile.On PAYG it’s £1 a day maximum to access the internet. Confirmed this works on iPhone.
i have a 1.1.2 uk iphone on tmobile, i renewed my contract and took out the unlimited web and walk,
i have changed the settings but still seems not to work,
do i also need to change the DNS and SMTPServer as well?

hi, ive got it working now, ive restored it to 1.1.1 jail broke it. back to 1.1.2 now and changed the settings and its worked fine,

Speed of GPRS (NOT Edge I believe) is sloooow, but at least it works. I live in the midlands and get charged £1 max a day.
I’m a T-mobile customer service rep. I can confirm that T-mobile has no EDGE coverage at all in the UK, your iPhones are just falling back onto GPRS.

i have just got some new settings for internet conection from T-mobile as I told them I needed it for my MDA. I have an Iphone, hacked, and used these settings with my t-mobiel and W&W contract.

it works for me but whenever I turn my phone off I do lose these settings and have to re type them. (But this also happened with the old settings of user user.

Those who say it’s £1 MAX per day PAYG, how did you try this out?
With my old phone when I connected to the internet it took the £1 straight away. On my iPhone I only went onto google for like 10 seconds and it took about 11p off me. Will this keep on charging until it gets to £1 then stop????

Hey guys
Just to let you know…. I have been having problems getting access to YouTube, MySpace etc on my Iphone for about a week now..
I’m a T-Mobile UK customer and I have finally found out the problem is due to an Adult Lock on my account. Yes that’s right, T-Mobile class Youtube videos as an adult site so its blocked.
I called to remove this and an hour later it was back on… so again I called and it was removed…. once again within an hour the lock re-appeared.
So I called customer services and its now be escalated as a fault. Its the network and not the phone and T-Mobile are looking into it as its a problem for many UK customers.
So if your having problems and don’t know why… it could be this issue.

Hi there, just read every comment and tried with my iphone and it works great, try unlocking with ziphone if your on a 1.1.4, im on a blackberry corporate business contract and got it working with all the apps except YouTube, log on to my t-mobile and you get an accurate and up-to date info on what your being charged on, that way you can see weather your being charged and for what.
Perfect, It works fine on my 1.1.4 iPhone from US Unlocked with T-mobile contract Unlimited GPRS. Bingo !!
Hi I just got my iphone and I have tried all the setting and I still can not get onto youtube. My content lock has been removed and I’m on web n walk.

im using 1.1.4 and those settings. i’ve enabled web n walk on my contract, but i only get gprs and no edge. it doesnt make sense, my friend has the same settings on his phone but he gets edge, we live in the same area he is only few doors away from me. anyone know what the problem could be?
Hi, i’m on t-mobile uk with a 1.1.4 hacked iphone, i have had no problems at all with the edge / grps, but the only gripe i have is that it’s not charging me at the £1 per day, i was on for about 20 mins just surfing the net waiting for a train, and i got charged around £2.50, but i was using the user ser settings, if i change to what a guy further up the list has suggested, will i be back on the £1 per day ?? any help would be great.

If you’re not being charged £1/day, phone T-Mobile and ask them to turn this on for you – it’s a relatively new thing they’ve introduced to complement Web’n'Walk, and if you had the phone before this, you won’t have had this activated. Should take a matter of seconds to do.
o2 had to start up an EDGE network specifically for the iPhone – prior to this, there were no EDGE networks in the UK, only GPRS and UMTS (HSDPA). You’re only using GPRS on T-Mobile, and that’s the way it’ll stay, as it’s not profitable for them to run an EDGE network. The 3G iPhone will change things somewhat, as it will no doubt use UMTS for data.

Just a quick question for you and anyone else who knows the answer to this. I have a unlocked iphone and staretd to use the W&W settings. The internet worked fine and i was very happy until i noticed that even with the unlimited package i was still being charged. Upon calling Tmobile i was told that with the current settings their system doesnt pick up that you have the W&W settings enabled as the handset is not supported. Tmobile said they should never have given me the W&W in the first place but what i really wanted to know is; can i get round this problem and use the unlimited package without being charged an extra amount for no reason? Just gets to me when you paid so much for a phone and cant use all of its features!

I am getting some wher as when I follow your instructions I at least get the youtube displaying a range of things to play. Only when I click toplay it says., Youtube videos requir a cellular data wi-fi connection. How can I by pass this ?

This problem is known as pushfix and it’s caused when upgrading a hacked phone to version 3.1.2. Whenever you want to access youtube, whether you use the youtube application on your iphone or safari browser you will see a grey logo with an arrow instead of a preview from the video. It’s shitty, and I really had to sort out what was the reason and how to solve it, but it’s possible to fix this ! I wrote a tutorial to solve this problem.
