Good effort, but the jumpcut video player just sucks. For some reason it’s not streaming properly, and they have set buffering to 0.1 seconds, so it’s really jumpy when buffering and trying to play. And pausing and waiting doesn’t help
Use something nicer, Brightcove or blip.tv player (or youtube if you really have to) next time. Thanks.

Hi Erki:
Yeah, Jumpcut’s quality/streaming sucks but it’s better than no keynote video, right?
October 1st, 2007 at 11:24 pmYouTube was down and unfortunately Viddler doesn’t handle the H.264 files that iMovie exports (and I don’t have an account with a different site at the moment.) I’m still looking for a good video-to-web workflow so hopefully things will improve.

OK, YouTube’s started working again. I’ve replaced the video with the YouTube version. Hopefully that should play back better.

The AIF image processing looks really promising. I can’t wait to dig into that. However, I was a little underwhelmed by the 3D support. Perhaps I’m just spoiled by Papervision, but I was expecting something a little more comprehensive than adding a z coordinate to Sprites. Hopefully what they showed today was just a small tease…

RTL support.. about time.
Who knows.. maybe http://www.amirdotan.com/the-right-to-flash/ had something to do with it

Still funny how something like text columns can get an audience of cutting edge developers hyped up

wow! what took weeks will now take minutes. and we can now finally offer our clients a real text and localization tool in flash, that is very exciting.
Adobe really addressed some real world issues and came through wonderfully, keep up the good work!!!
Thanks!

Fabulous Aral - thank you. Really nice for those of us who couldn’t attend.

This is real great and exciting news! (Both RTL and 3D).
I hope they release some more info on how the new text API will be implemented.
there are some stupid but critical questions, like will it support RTL input…
and even more important will this text be picked up by Google spiders?
and until this version comes out you can check out this RTL solution which has become quite good for RTL output.

RTL is great news, but naturally will be a good while before we can start using on commercial projects. Does anyone know of any good RTL solutions that can be used with FP8?

Thanks Gideon will check that out. If anyone else knows of other solutions, please post

Given that Adobe are implementing things like RTL support, multi-column layouts and many other things which are being drafted into CSS3, does it not make sense for Adobe to help out the W3C CSS Working Group in drafting the CSS3 specification?
At the moment, CSS support within the Flex framework doesn’t cover more than the basics (so much so that it’s debatable as to whether it’s CSS beyond the syntax). This could be an opportunity for Adobe to take advantage of the fact that browser vendors are slow, unwilling or unable to implement the CSS specs properly.
Adobe’s experience within the Flash environment (which essentially follows the same box-model of browser-based DOM) would be invaluable to the W3C.

That’s a very good suggestion, Nathan. I don’t know what, if any, effort there is on that front.

Aren’t they part of it already?

the new flash player features look really cool, but it seems as it somehow takes some of the fun of creating 3D away as it come “built in” to the player… on the other hand the new text features look exiting, and Hydra … well i can’t wait to get to spend a little more time with it!

Adding the z-axis is huge. If you think PaperVision is cool, I assure you you ain’t seen nothing yet. Combine real 3D distortion (as appose to tesselation/skewing) with programmable pixel shaders and it won’t be long before we see realtime reflections, normal mapping etc. in Flash. Ofcourse you still need people with a good grasp of 3D to create this stuff and the PV team should be really well poised to get the most out of the new features with a huge increase in performance. Can’t wait to see PV2 ;O)
Oh yeh, text that’s almost upto HTML standard will be nice too.

Video conferencing is indeed a great innovation of Information Technology and Communications. I guess the news media is the first user of video conferencing.
