If you are creating a custom wrapper for a Flex 2 project that uses the History Manager, make sure that you set the width of the IFrame that houses history.htm to at least 22 pixels. Otherwise, it works on FireFox but doesn't work in Internet Explorer. I was pulling out hair today trying to figure out why my example wasn't working in IE until I stumbled across this.

If you use the default wrapper created by Flex Builder, the IFrame's width is set to 22 pixels by default.

[Update] Apparently I was reinventing the wheel. Command + Shift + O opens a finder item in its own window as does Command + double-click (thanks to Erki, Chafic and Robert for these tips.)

I really wish there was an easy way of discovering shortcuts for OS X.

On Windows, I use the excellent Wamp to set up a local development environment with Apache, MySQL and PHP. On the Mac, I just discovered MAMP which lets me do the same thing.

Here's one to keep an eye on:

The xinf (pronounced: 'sinf, acronym for "xinf is not flash") project aims to provide a unified platform for cross-runtime GUI development. It will enable you to develop graphical interfaces and "rich internet applications" that run on the Adobe Flash Player, within web browsers supporting JavaScript, and on a cross-platform player built on neko and OpenGL, from one and the same codebase. Most of the cross-runtime magic is provided by Nicolas Cannasse's "haXe" language and compiler.

The German software maker Magix is gearing up to file a patent reexamination of the Balthaser Rich Internet Applications patent. They contacted me this week to ask for the Flash community's help in assembling prior art.
