I'm starting a campaign that is long overdue and (literally) putting my money where my mouth is: We need a standard, open-source documentation format for ActionScript 2 and NaturalDocs is just the candidate. Unfortunately, it currently doesn't have ActionScript support.

Vote to bring NaturalDocs to Flash and w’ll match each vote with a $1 donation!

I'm very happy to announce that Sham Bhangal, author of Flash Hacks by O'Reilly and Foundation ActionScript Flash MX 2004 by Friends of ED will be teaching a course for us called ActionScript for Designers. The class will take place on February 24th-25th, 2005. Here's some more information, including links to the course brochure in FlashPaper and PDF formats. Welcome on board, Sham! :)

This must be some sort of hidden epidemic: It appears that people who are clueless about Flash feel the need to write articles bashing it. Excuse me but I thought that was our job! Personally, I feel offended when someone who knows nothing but XML and Java feels the need to encroach on the turf of hard-working Flashers by criticizing Flash using myths and misinformation when we can do a much better job of bitching about things using actual facts! :)

The article I'm talking about is the one that JD blogged about called SVG: Imaging`s[sic] Pot of Gold? (It seems that someone has to teach the editors at DevArticles the difference between an apostrophe and a single opening quote.)

Why do people who are clueless about Flash feel a driving need to write about it?

How often have you wished for the ability to quickly sample the color anywhere on your screen?

I know I run into this all the time, with my less-than-ideal solution so far being grabbing a quick snap of the screen using the excellent Snag-it tool by TechSmith and then using the eyedropper tool in Photoshop. This works a charm, of course, but is convoluted. So, today, I finally stopped procrastinating (somebody's favorite word... you know who you are!) and Googled utility screen pixel color.

Up popped the open-source ColorSpy!

Just a quick thank-you to everyone who has contacted us regarding the two new training classes I'm going to be teaching. I really appreciate the response we've gotten and it's great to see that the courses are already starting to fill up. Just a quick reminder that the early bird discount is over this Friday.

Thanks for the response!
