On Vista? You must use the latest Flash Player (9,0,28 or higher)
I just read an informative post on Justin's blog about how older versions of the Flash Player will not work as expected on Microsoft Vista due to changes in the security model. The areas that are reported as being affected are express install, shared objects, local connection and file reference.
The On Vista? You must use the latest Flash Player (9,0,28 or higher) article by Aral Balkan, unless otherwise expressly stated, is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 2.0 UK: England License.
Basically, in order for Flash content to play properly on Vista, users must run the latest Flash Player version (9,0,28 or higher).
In other words, if your users are on Vista and complain that your Flash sites or applications are not working properly, you'll have to tell them to upgrade to the latest player.

Neither good nor bad, I think… more a fact of life. The new OS doesn’t quite support all existing software as the old OS did, so new releases of software are necessary to “support” Vista. Player 9.0.28 was available after the Vista release cycle stabilized.
I’m not sure what percentage of people will upgrade to Vista, as opposed to doing a clean install of the OS. It sounds like Justing indicated that complaints like the following could identify someone with an old Player on new OS:
o “I clicked ‘yes’ to Express Install but nothing happened.”
o “It doesn’t remember my last session.”
o “When I click in this little SWF, nothing happens in that other big SWF.”
o “I’m not able to upload files… I see the dialogs, but nothing happens.”
I’d recommend keeping updated on internet software as a matter of course anyway. You can quickly check someone’s version by asking them to go to this page:

I’ll chalk this up to neither good/bad, but necessary inconvenience for the advancement of Microsoft Flash visitors…lol Ah heck, my swf’s perform better in 9 anyways!

What’s the word on using swfobject on IE 6 / Vista? I haven’t been able to find anything definitive via google and have received several ‘bug’ reports from people saying they can’t access our applications…

Hi Tom,
I haven’t heard of anything specific to swfobject on Vista although there are scattered bug reports on the swfobject list about issues with IE 6. I’d suggest trying to narrow it down to make sure it’s swfobject and not this player issue. Look through the swfobject mailing list archives for the IE 6 issue reports.

Perhaps MicroSoft did it intentionally.
Almost all Flash Players older than the nines are full of security issues, and Website visitors Privacy is being compromised.

yea i tried to install this stupid 9.0.45.0 update for Flash on my New vista and it’s not working…this is so stupid! I’ve been trying for about 3 hours now with HP’s support center and it’s still not working…

Im trying to test a Flash app on Vista which appears to run slower using the .45 version but quicker using .28 - only now I cant fins version.28 to roll back to. Anyone know where I can find the earlier version?

I have been experiencing problems with Flash 9.0.47 and Windows Vista/Internet Explorer 7. When I have multiple tabs open with a running flash object on one of the background tabs, I can get the message “Internet Explorer has found a problem and needs to close”. There seems to still be a problem with Vista/IE7 and Flash. When a page is opened that has both a text area and a flash file doing a local connection, letters go missing when typing in the text area. This is using flash 9.0.47.0.
To reproduce: create a flash movie with nothing but the following AS code:
_root.localConnection = new LocalConnection();
_root.localConnection.connect(”foo”);
Put this flash movie on a page together with a text area:
Now try typing in the text area. On my system, about one in 100 characters does not get recorded. We’ve seen this behaviour on many different Vista machines.
Currently we are just disabling all localconnections, losing some functionality on Vista.

Does anyone have a fix for IE7 not supporting Flash localconnection()? I had wonderful communication happening between a sound controller and other .swfs on the screen, until my company sent out some Vista/IE7 upgrade (have the same Flash player - Flash 9.0.47)

But in face book i ahve to ahve the latest version of flashplayer to view alot of thigns play poker etc…. i have downloaded the 9.0.47 on and it said it worked properly… yet when i go to use face book it still says i have to download flash player…. as do many other sites…. HELP!

Hi Candi,
Try restarting your computer and see if that helps. If it doesn’t, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Flash player.

I have downloaded many times adobe flashplayer 9.0 ..I have uninstalled/reinstalled several times, and the site always says I have successfully downloaded this program. I have restared my computer, and it still does not work when I go back to the site than requires the new flash player. These sites include MSn most of their videos that I need to play.
Can anyone please help.

I had problems loading sound in Flash 9,0,45,0 but after finding this post I upgraded to 9,0,115,0 and that seems to have sorted it out.

Hello,
Im trying to debug a project on Flex 2 Builder (Vista). After aprox 1 minute it says: Failed to connect: session timed out, 1. You compiled your Flash Aplication with debugging on (obviusly, i did). 2. You are running the Debug version of the flash player.
I already updated the Flash Player version from the Abode site (attending adobe suggestions) and I run the setup in administrator mode but still having the same problem. When I do right-click in IE7 “About Adobe Flash Player 9″ it says version 9,0,115,0 and it’s supposed to be 9,0,28,0.
Any suggestion?
