This looks like it could be great!
Thanks WT for typing all that out... It was pretty hard to read it on the site.

This is my favorite demo so far: Ball with baked Ambient Occlusion - looks great

Interesting =)

Well after a little while using the mouse to rotate the text so it would scroll back into the screen like star wars intros, followed by 6 screen shots while the text slowly scrolled, then typing the six screen shots into a text file, here is what everyone wants to know - "What the teext says?", it reads as follows:

_____________________________________________________________

Chapter IV

Its been 8 long years.
Whispers crept in the shadows of a distant hope approaching.... something
thought possible, so unattainable that it was
often dismissed as pure fiction.

many had given up hope, many turned away,
but a few remained true, inspired by a dream.
Not even the threat of bloated file sizes, nor
endless image sequences could dent their resolve.

Countless hours of rendering, batch processing,
importing and converting strengthened the few
who longed for the real-time 3D for their flash existence....
but their world was flat, static, bloated.

Then, by chance, the myth ensnared
yet another member.
But it had underestimated this ones sheer will.
Myth turned to legend, legend turned to an AS file,
and that which would be Papervision3D
breathed the sweet bouquet of flash life!

A rebellion against the myth was born,
a new world was on the rise.
This new world brought the promise of true
real-time 3D to the hands of every
common flasher who would freely participate,
create and inspire a generation to come together
in a world thought impossible, improbable even.

The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back,
and all change to silver grass... and then you see it...
white shores... and beyond...
a kickin' real-time 3D experience called

PAPERWORLD

_____________________________________________________________

Now if you google "Paperworld" you get a "few" items and insight possibly:

http://www.google.com/search?q=paperworld3d&hl=en&filter=0

I think John Grden is involved in this =) based on:

1.) info in the "scrollingTextMesh.DAE" paperworld3d.com/meshes/scrollingTextMesh.DAE -- that says John =)

2.) from the google search and osflash.org/pipermail - John started the quest for a name on - http://osflash.org/pipermail/papervision3d_osflash.org/2006-December/000300.html

3.) the use of " Kickin' " in the last paragraph of the retyped text above from paperworld3d.com is very John from his blog =)

So to sum it up whatever it is its cool, and whomever is involved awesome, as the story mentioned, its time for the fable of 3D flash to end and we enter into a brave new world where creativity become boundless. As a side note thought good job to all those doing awesome stuff in flash 2d and sudo 3d over the years, there has been some incredible flash over the years, but with this and others that may go up a notch ;-)

Do i get a prize for my patience in sitting through that text scroll and retyping the text ? =)

PS: who ever is behind this, great idea about the setup of the text, makes for more interest and buzz, a buzz that I am sure will grow in the coming days, weeks and months !

=)

Thom: I was thinking the same thing and even spoke to Jim (one of the engineers on Second Life) about it at BarCampLondon2. He seemed impressed with the Papervision3D demos I showed him but he appeared not to think that it would be enough to power a Flash client.

I say, let's give it a shot -- even if it's scaled back in some way it would still be terribly cool! :)

Carlos hinted at such a project during his LFPUG presentation.

From memory they were working on streaming the content for a seamless "world" with in essence no loading times.

Sounds pretty exciting, especially if it's open enough for any Flash developer to build content for it, similar to Wallop only 3D and better.
