The default password for MySQL under MAMP is username: root, password: root. Apparently the default password in a plain vanilla install is username: root, password: "" (empty).

Was wondering what this was, and you where top of the results in Google, so thanks! :D
Same thing as with Robert happened to me. Thanks!
Great to hear it guys :)
I have installed MAMP and it automatically gave me root and root. I also do freelance work for a company that is PC based, using WAMP, and their password is in plain vanilla. How can I change my password on MAMP?
PS. I’m a designer and NOT a developer so you can imagine my reaction when I saw SQL and Apache. :-O
thanks for the tip, that was very helpful to me.
Thanks for getting me past this!
Hi,
I’ve been trying changing root and “” to my personal adress and password, and now I can’t connect anymore to MySQL ! Any idea ?
Is this the same for WAMP??

Thanks for the tip, I was wondering why my newly created mamp install was refusing the good ole’ blank password.
