As you've probably already heard, this year will mark the 10th anniversary of Flash -- that thing which began life as a tool for creating web animations and is, today, a platform. To celebrate, MMIstanbul, the Adobe User Group in Istanbul, is holding a celebration party/seminar called FlashDay this Sunday, starting at 2pm Istanbul time (12pm GMT).
Murat Kgirgin, who heads the group, contacted me recently to ask whether I'd like to speak at the event and I told him that I'd be more than happy to. I'll be joining the event at around 4pm Istanbul time (2pm GMT) via Breeze to talk about my experiences with Flash, where it has come from and where it is heading and, of course, about the amazing open source movement we have in the Flash world with OSFlash.
You can find out more about the event on the FlashDay web site (if you speak Turkish, that is!)
Update: You can view the Breeze meeting, live.

don’t you mean future splash day?
Hi Aral ….
could you post the link of meeting or send it privatly ? cuz i’m intersting to come .
Congrats Flash! 10 is a great year! Aral, why isn’t the Flash Player build into web browsers, and why aren’t updates automatic (which the option to be manual).
I thought Flash started as just a drawing tool.
I guess it depends on when take the birth of Flash to be. Apparently SmartSketch was not an animation tool but FutureSplash was. (I didn’t use either at the time.)
Hi Saeed: I’ve asked Murat if I can post the URL for the Breeze meeting publicly. I’ll let you know.
Lee: I’m sure the Flash Player will be built into IE when hell freezes over!
Adobe and Microsoft are competitors on the web applications front (Flash and Flex vs. WPF and WPF/e). I’m actually very happy that Adobe has control over the Player so that we don’t see half-implementations that would deprive Flash of its main advantage: Seamless cross-platform compatibility on supported platforms.
sunumun icin tesekkurler aral.
Bende Bahadır’a katılıyorum. Tesekkurler Aral. etkinliğimize göstermiş oldugun ilgi ve alakadan ve bilgileri bizimle paylaştığın için.
Aral,
Many thanks for your delightful presentation. In spite of many misfortune, you were perfect. I am so glad to be introduced you to our community. I hope to see you another organization again, with no technical problem :). We are still taking thanks from MMIstanbul members and event participants for your sharings. This is good…
And bad news; I could not record your presentation. I think there was a bug in Breeze. Because when I start recording, your voice is stopped. Soundless record would not be meaningful, so result is no record, sorry. I will test and search it in a short time and report to Adobe.

See you…

Zehra: Thanks for the kind words! I’m sorry the Breeze connection on your end kept disconnecting but, looking on the brighter side, it did mean that I got to rehearse the beginning of my talk four times!

Going to look at the photos now!
