You seem to be getting through tho.
Kevin Lynch presents Flash and Flex as one unified platform in his fairly recent whitepaper http://www.adobe.com/platform/whitepapers/platform_overview.pdf

I read with great interest your insights into the commercial positioning of the FLEX 2 product line - shortly after seeing a webcast from Christophe. I am one of the vanity stricken java shops and was pleased that you had reported your opinions with a viewpoint from the Flash/Designers perspective. For those of us who have tried years of JSP/JSF and even Laszlo apps Flex was - and still is quite the most powerful and creative environment I (and most of my colleagues) have yet to work with. XAML is, (and will continue to be) rubbish - I am pleased you identified this. Despite licensing issues - and I believe that they will improve, FLEX2 (& even 1.5 that I used extensively), provides the whole java community who care about UI to deliver. I have always seen the world as seperated between those who understand OO and those who enjoy 'key frame' and 'pixel pushing' - occasionally one encounters those who javaflash remoting. I hope, pray that FLEX2 will get the praise it deserves as it will free both sides from the shackles that have prvented us from delivering a decent UI experience for business users..cheers,thanks for your blog

I am doing an online game with a great deal of Flash 8 art. I just made the move to Flex and am a happy geek. Coming from C game coding AS 2.0 was too loosy-goosey for my taste. And the object model in Flash 8 was always a bit voodoo.

Advice for Flash/Flex hybrid projects - Use LocalConnection to talk between the two sides if you have any complexity to your symbol nesting or need access to the timeline.

I believe it would be fair to say that there was a certain amount of forced positioning during the days of Flex 1. It's great to see, however, that Adobe appears to be embracing the greater developer community, including Flash Developers, in Flex 2. Flash Developers did feel left out and talked down to last time around but Flex 2 was a chance for a new beginning and Adobe appears to have grabbed it!

Good luck with Flex 2 -- I have a feeling you're really going to enjoy it! :)

Thanks for these extremely helpful comments and links. I will review the articles closely.

I've had mixed feelings about the coming of Flex for a while. Many of the features seem incredibly appealing, but I have always had this nagging feeling that Macrodobe has not been completely straightforward in positioning the product (as your points about thier perpetuating myths confirm).
