A poor woman gets her leg burned by a MacBook Pro and instead of sympathy, some Mac zealots brand it her fault and start harassing her husband on the Apple Support forums. Apple fanatics really scare me sometimes. If a MacBook Pro blew up and killed someone they'd probably say "Yeah, but at least she went happy!" Apparently the poor billion-dollar underdog can do no wrong. Scary, I say! :)

Wow, I just read some of that and had to stop it was so bad. There were people actually berrating him because he did not read the user manual where it says he cant use a laptop in his lap. Amazing. Seriously, im rethinking buying a mac now…
The personal attacks were very uncalled by the people in the forum. I found it interesting that many are arguing that because they (not Apple) call it a “laptop”, somehow it should be able to remain on your lap.
However, I have to agree with some of what was said. If you place a laptop/notebook computer on your lap and it starts getting hot, then you need to have the common sense to remove it before you get burned. Apple notebooks are not the only ones that run hot and she was not the only person to ever burn themselves. I know both of my Compaqs run hot and are very uncomfortable to have directly on your skin. If I were leave them there long enough, I am sure my skin would react similarly.
While she should have known better, it’s completely wrong to be this mean to her or her husband. But to think this is a purely Mac Fan issue of berating over a favored product is wrong also. I have been in Macromedia (Adobe) forums where I have seen similar abuse. It’s an attitude problem and those Fanatics of any product will say anything if they think it will make themselves feel better. I am a Mac user and my 17″ PowerBook runs really hot. I can’t have it on my bare skin although I have tried, ’cause I was being too lazy to sit at a table. The problem is a failure within humanity not the product.
And honestly, to ban a product because the users of the product are obnoxious is just as silly. I am not name-calling. Don’t buy a Mac, but don’t buy it for some other reason than the users. That would be like not using Flash just because some Flash people are obnoxious. But if you do buy a Mac then be a Mac person that doesn’t become a Fanatic. Be one that would sympathize with that man not berate him.
*all* notebooks (note how they’re deliberately NOT referred to as laptops these days) have the capacity to burn you under certain circumstances. There was an incident a while back with a guy who burnt a far more sensitive area than his leg on a Dell notebook (and got a far, far worse burn than the woman above).

For this reason all notebooks now seem to carry a warning stating quite clearly that you *shouldn’t* use it on your lap.
I agree that the Apple fanatics are (just for a change!) being a bit dickish – but at the end of the day they are unfortunately correct.
